What is an IFD?

The Instructional Focus Document is developed and maintained by the TN Department of Education. It arranges Tennessee's science standards into coherent progressions and defines some key scientific ideas encompassed by each standard and predicts some possible student misconceptions.

About Student Ideas

Students develop many logical ideas that are not scientifically accurate. Often called "misconceptions" these student ideas are valuable steps to student learning. Facets thinking recognizes that there are patterns for these ideas.

The IFD Navigator is developed and maintained by volunteers of the TN Science Education Leadership Association (TNSELA). The goal of this tool is to provide users with quick and convenient access to the support materials developed by the Tennessee Department of Edcuation.
